The Local Plot

Your information

Privacy notice

Last updated: 1 October 2026

The Local Plot runs thelocalplotni.co.uk and is responsible for the personal information described here. We keep it to what we need.

1. What we collect

  • Your business name and email address when you buy a plot or sign in.
  • Your listing details: description, contact details, opening hours, links and anything else you add.
  • Photos and logos you upload.
  • Your name and email if you sign up to The Local Post, submit an event, ask us to add a town or contact us.
  • Payment details, which are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
  • Anonymous counts of profile views and button taps, so businesses can see how their listing is doing.

2. Why we use it

  • To set up, show and manage your listing and plot.
  • To take payments and handle renewals.
  • To sign you in and send you messages about your account.
  • To send The Local Post, if you've signed up (you can unsubscribe at any time).
  • To reply to you and keep the directory safe and genuine.

We rely on our contract with you, our legitimate interest in running the directory, and your consent for the newsletter.

3. Who we share it with

We only share information with the services that help us run the site:

  • Stripe, for card payments and billing.
  • Our hosting and database providers, who store the site and its data.
  • Our email provider, for sign-in links, account emails and the newsletter.

Your listing details are public because that's the point of a listing. We don't sell personal data, ever.

4. How long we keep it

We keep your account and listing details while you have a plot, and for up to 12 months afterwards in case you come back. Payment records are kept for 6 years, as the law requires. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. You can ask us to delete your information sooner.

5. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you,
  • ask us to correct anything that's wrong,
  • ask us to delete your information,
  • object to how we use it, or withdraw consent for the newsletter.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

6. Cookies and analytics

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. When you sign in, your browser stores a small sign-in token so you stay logged in. The payment form from Stripe may set its own cookies to prevent fraud. Profile view and tap counts are anonymous and aren't linked to you.

7. Contact for privacy requests

To make a request or ask a question about your information, email thelocalplot@hotmail.com.
